My 90plus High Efficiency Bryant furnace is costing me my life savings. When the furnace kicks on if set at 68 degrees and has dropped on thermostat around 2 to 4 degrees it runs for 20 to 30 minutes every time to get up to 68 degrees.

For age use the serial number and the 'B-L-A-C-K-H. Bryant:From 1964 to 1979 use the first two numbers of the serial number followed by a date code. Definitely 60s/70s vintage, not 1996. In the later 70s they went to the current serial number configuration. 1296A12345 where 12th week of 1996, made in Indianapolis, 12345 is sequence number.

I know this is not normal. I have had repair man out to check it several times found nothing. I wonder if it is the blower or what is the problem. My model number is 0997x37197 any help would be great. I wonder if the furnace was recalled for not working like it is supposed to be working? Or any one has a solution. The affected model numbers are: VA3AAA015, VA3AAB015, VL3AAA015, VB5A AA015, VB5AAB015 VC5AAA015, VB5AAB015, VA3AAA020, VA3AAB020, VL3AAA020, VB5A AA020, VB5AAB020, VC5AAA020, VC5AAB020, VC5AAA027, VC5AAB027, HRVBBLVU1150, HRVBBL VU1200, HRVBBLVU1330, HRVBBSVU1150, and HRVBBSVU1200. The affected serial numbers are: 0193V (with 6 more digits) to 1201V (with 6 more digits). 0997x37197 Is not a known Bryant model number.

Find the exact model number for further help. The model number will be on the main furnace information tag which will contain a bunch of other info. BTW the recall while it might include your unit once you get the correct model number WILL NOT cause your unit to run longer/use more fuel. Something is causing the unit to run longer but actually it sounds like it is not heating up enough. I would have the service person check the gas pressure at the valve to make sure it is at the correct firing rate.

Okay, now we're getting somewhere. Look for a clear plug with a red LED inside. Or, look for two metal plugs side-by-side, one says variable-speed (ignore), the other says fixed-speed (remove). Watch this little bugger while the furnace runs, see if it starts blinking. If it does, observe the pattern and refer to the service label inside the front panel.
